The Effectiveness of Home Water filtration systems

Water filtration systems have become big business. In fact the market in Australia alone is estimated to be worth $110 billion by 2025! But, once you’ve decided that it’s worth investing in a home water filter system you need to be certain that it is as effective as you think it will be.

The first thing you need to do is select a supplier that has a good reputation, you want a filter that is going to give you clean & clear water. It is a good idea to check the reputation of any manufacturer and supplier on social media sites. You’ll be able to assess whether the supplier is interested in providing quality products and whether they look after their customers.

How Effective The Home Water Purification Systems Are

There is actually an array of different types of water filter; depending on what you are trying to remove or change in your water. The most common in household systems is carbon but you can also get ceramic, sand and even a system that uses ultra violet light. Not every filter is effective at removing all the contaminants in water, but all of the above methods are effective at removing fluoride and chlorine.

Carbon Filters

These have shown to be very effective at removing chlorine, fluorine, sediment and volatile organic compounds. They can also remove the taste and even any odor, leaving you with clear and clean water, especially when using a zip filter tap for your hydration needs.

But they cannot remove minerals, salts or inorganic substances which are already dissolved in your water.

Ceramic

This can be an effective substance for removing bacteria, viruses and protozoa. But its effectiveness will depend on the quality of the ceramic filter used.  This is why it is important to choose the right supplier / manufacturer.

Sand

Sand is one of the substances you are recommended to use if you’re trying to survive in the wild. It is very effective at removing even the smallest of particles. However, while it can remove an array of debris it is not effective at removing bacteria or even chemicals.

This is why it is recommended that you also boil the water if you ever need to use a sand filter.

Ultra Violet

UV rays come from the sun and can be dangerous to most types of live; including humans. This is because the rays are so powerful that they will destroy almost all known bacteria. Ultra violet can penetrate water and enter the core of any pathogen in the water. It will then mutate the cells, destroying the pathogen.

This is the most effective way of removing bacteria from your water.

The Bottom Line

When determining the appropriate water filtration system for your needs, it is essential to identify the specific contaminants you wish to eliminate from the water. Carbon filters are widely recognized for their ability to remove particulates and chemicals. To enhance protection, consider pairing a carbon filter with an ultraviolet filter. However, it is important to note that increasing the number of filters will also raise the overall cost. The key consideration is not merely the effectiveness of a filter, but rather whether it meets your specific requirements.
