As the calendar turns to December, a familiar ritual unfolds. Families everywhere start sharing their Elf on the Shelf pictures. It’s a tradition that many have embraced. However, I have never been drawn to the idea of bringing an elf into our home. Some of my relatives are enthusiastic participants, and that’s perfectly fine. Each family has its own unique way of celebrating the season. If you’re looking for an Elf on the Shelf alternative, there are creative options that spark imagination and fun. This post will explore a unique alternatives, ensuring excitement for children without the same repetitive routine. Discover how to create new memories and keep the magic alive in your home this year.
Life can be incredibly hectic, and the idea of moving an elf each night only adds to the pressure. It feels like yet another chore on top of our already overflowing responsibilities. My previous experience with “The Irish Fairy Door” was brief; it started off as a delightful concept but soon morphed into just another obligation. While I appreciate the joy this brings to many, I find myself leaning towards simpler traditions. I don’t intend to criticize elf-related activities; everyone should embrace their holiday customs in a way that resonates with them. With this perspective, I recently began exploring alternatives to the Elf on the Shelf trend. In the first week of November, I discovered “Reindeer in Here.” This innovative idea caught my attention and seemed to align perfectly with our family’s vibe. I felt a wave of excitement and curiosity about how this new tradition could enhance our holiday festivities.
About Reindeer in Here
Adam Reed, a children’s book author and devoted father, sought to establish a heartwarming Christmas tradition with his daughter, leading to the creation of “Reindeer in Here.” This delightful story emerged from Reed’s desire to offer a joyful alternative to the Elf on the Shelf concept. Hats off to Adam for this wonderful initiative!
Since its launch, “Reindeer in Here” has garnered numerous accolades from parenting organizations, including the prestigious GOLD Mom’s Choice Award, Creative Child Magazine’s Best Book of the Year, Toy Insider’s Top Holiday Toy, and the esteemed National Parenting Center Seal of Approval!
What sets “Reindeer in Here” apart is the way children embrace their reindeer companions, taking them along on all their adventures. Unlike the Elf on the Shelf, which serves as a scout for Santa, the reindeer is a true friend who shares children’s heartfelt wishes with Santa.
One of the most appealing aspects is that parents don’t have to move the reindeer each night, as is customary with the Elf on the Shelf. Children will naturally want to snuggle with their new reindeer friend at bedtime—who wouldn’t want to cuddle with such a charming companion?
As night falls, the reindeer ‘writes notes’ to Santa, recounting the day’s escapades. This enchanting exchange allows Santa to understand the individuality of each child, ensuring that their true Christmas wishes are fulfilled on Christmas Eve.
On that magical night, children place their reindeer under the tree, ready for Santa to take them back to the North Pole, where they will stay until December 1st of the next year.
Reindeer In Here Storybook
This delightful package includes a storybook authored by Adam Reed and beautifully illustrated by Izzy Bean, narrating the enchanting story of how this lovable reindeer made its early debut. The book showcases diversity not only through the vibrant illustrations of children but also in the depiction of the reindeer itself. If you take a closer look at the plush reindeer, you’ll see that one of its antlers is charmingly shorter than the other.
I completely forgot about the reindeer’s arrival, so when it showed up at my doorstep, it was a delightful surprise. The Reindeer In Here came in a special “Direct from the North Pole” shipping box, which I absolutely adore, as Miss P is convinced that her reindeer has traveled straight from Santa! Who knows, maybe it really did? The box also contains a note from Santa regarding Reindeer In Here.
Our thoughts
Our package arrived a day later than expected, but Miss P couldn’t be more thrilled to have her new friend with us. She has chosen to name her reindeer Candy Cane.
Even though Candy Cane has only been with us for a day, Miss P and her have already formed a strong bond. I am truly excited to see this holiday tradition develop with my daughter for many years ahead.

This is cute and he is a lot cutier then the elf..lol I love this guy more!
I actually love this guy much better then the elf, plus he is so much cuter!
My daughter does elf on the shelf for my granddaughter but definitely not in an over the top kind of way. Love the reindeer though.
I like this idea of adopting a different character other than “elf”. Nice christmas traditions can be built with something unique as this guy.
