If you’re fed up with managing several remotes for your home entertainment setup, the Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control is here to simplify your life. This versatile remote lets you operate your TV, cable box, streaming devices, and more—all from a single unit. In this review, we’ll dive into the features and capabilities of the Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control to assist you in determining if it’s the perfect fit for your needs.

Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control set up

To set up your Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion, you’ll need a smartphone (either Android or iPhone) or a PC. This allows you to access the Harmony Setup app. I opted to use my laptop for the setup, and it was a straightforward process.

To program the remote, you’ll need a Harmony account. You can log in using your Facebook or Google account, or you can create a Harmony account with your email address.

After logging in, the Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion software will ask you to connect the Logitech Harmony Hub using the provided USB cable. Just plug the USB cable from your computer (or phone) into the hub.

Next, you’ll be prompted to name the hub, making it easier to identify on your home wireless network. The following step involves setting up the wireless connection to add the hub to your network.

Using the Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control software

Once everything is set up, the exciting part starts!

Now, it’s time to utilize the Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control software to automatically scan for your entertainment devices. Don’t worry if the software doesn’t detect all your devices right away; you can easily add them manually by providing some basic details about each device. If the software finds your device automatically, you’re all set! If not, you’ll need to ensure your other entertainment devices are functioning properly first.

On the Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion Device Screen, just click the ADD Device button. The next screen will prompt you for the device’s name and model number. For instance, if you have an LG 4K UltraHD webOS Smart TV, you would enter “LG” for the name and the model number, which you can find in your TV settings under advanced, general, and about.

The Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion Software will then ask you to use the remote that came with your TV. Simply point that remote at the Harmony Hub, and you’ll receive instructions on which buttons to press so the Harmony Hub can control your TV.

My Thoughts

I was worried at first that it would be difficult to set up, but it really was quite simple to do. After my TV was added, I proceeded to add my other entertainment devices one by one. At the time of writing this review I have them all added but my MediaBox that runs my Android Media Player. I am sure there is a way. I will just have to play with the Harmony Hub some-more to figure it out. Nonetheless I was able to replace 4 remote controls with one.

The Harmony Home Control Companion Remote has a great feel to it and has a gel grip for easy handling. The hub is just a little larger then a ROKU hub, but very slender. The IR mini-blaster is ideal if you have your entertainment device in a TV hutch or closed cabinet as you can attach the hub and run it up the back of your entertainment unit.

I would rate the Logitech Harmony Companion a solid 5 Stars because of its incredible versatility as an all-in-one remote control. It features user-friendly software for programming the Harmony Remote and a Hub to manage your entertainment devices effortlessly.

The Logitech Companion offers an outstanding universal remote experience for its price. It’s such a relief not to rummage through a pile of remotes to find the one you need. The Harmony Companion Remote Control truly simplifies and enhances daily life. My wife loves it, and I’m sure my aunt will appreciate it the next time she babysits our 4-year-old. Now, I just need to show them both how to use it. Wish me luck, everyone!
